Thirst (Bakjwi). Film Review.

I was hesitant to watch it for years. Heard about this film since it was released, but I thought it will be too funny in a bad way. So couple of weeks ago out of boredom and reading some positive reviews I decided to finally see it. What can I say? New favorite film in my collection. A must see for anyone.

The plot starts out as priest becomes a vampire after a failed medical experiment. Sounds kind of cliche, but it's not.

It's completely new and fresh view on vampire horror films, even though it's hard to describe only with one genre. During the film I cried and laughed a lot (the second one is really rare). Cinematography is beautiful. Plot is entertaining, weird, crazy, artistic and poetic. It's quite disturbing, but has a lot of dark comedy at the same time.

The director of Thirst (2009) - Chan-wook Park is one of my favorites (Oldboy(2003) and I'm a Cyborg, but that's OK(2006)).

Fashion And 1980s Films

I already wrote about how inspiring films can be in some fashion choices. At the moment I am fascinated by the idea you get regarding clothes when you watch 80s films. In some films, actors look incredibly well dressed. Well, it's a well known fact that fashion comes in cycles, and always returns. But seeing it on screen in motion is just too unreal. So here are some of the films from the 80s where I really liked the outfits (films are worth checking out as well)

           After Hours (1985)

And finally my all time favorite ASSA (1987), every single outfit in the film I like as well as the music, plot and acting. Set in Crimea is about underground musicians rising to the scene in Soviet Russia as well as slightly complicated love triangle between young nurse, her criminal middle aged boyfriend and a young experimental musician is so worth checking out.

Paradise: Love. Film Review.

Paradise: Love by Ulrich Seidl is one of my favorite from the Paradise trilogy followed by Paradise: Faith and Paradise: Hope. The is drama film but feels like some dark comedy, filmed in 2012. It's about a 50 year old woman going to Kenya for sex tourism. She is a single mother on holiday for the first time with couple of friends. The woman doesn't know anything about sex tourism, and really is surprised seeing her not so attractive friends going out with younger man. They persuade her, and so she does the same thing. Man

convinces her that he doesn't need her money, only for her to provide a little help to his family. She feels really self conscious, and tries to get love from those man, only to realize later in the film that they are in fact using her for money. There is nothing glamorous about how it was filmed, feels a lot like an amateur pornography at times with a lot of explicit scenes. However you can't help but get glued to the screen. Probably because the topic is slightly shocking and haven't been covered before as much as I remember.
Anyway, I really suggest seeing this film, it can be really off putting but so fascinating at the same time, that you regret it ending.
