Artists I Like: Oleg Dou

Oleg Dou is a really cool artist from Moscow. He manipulates photographs in Photoshop and other software.

  “I want to attain the feeling of presence one can get when walking by a plastic mannequin…” he has said.  “I am looking for something bordering between the beautiful and the repulsive, living and dead.”

No wonder, as he is inspired by 19th century child funeral portraits.

Artists I Like: Martin Wittfooth

Stumbled upon Martin Wittfooth art by accident and I was fascinated straight away. His art explores everything I love and appreciate. What not to love about animals on fire in post apocalyptic world and especially his love for polar bears? But

seriously, I think the art work is magical and so close to what I used to do for my final year at uni. Exploring the death in animals and manipulating it through photography, collage and art work. People thought I was completely insane, standing on a pavement taking pictures of smashed dead birds for hours, then doing a collage of them sitting on a branch, haha... too bad I submitted it but forgot to keep the copy for myself. However in my opinion it's not crazy or disgusting. It's beyond interesting. Exploring something off limits, taboo and generally inappropriate is my opinion of good art that should be disturbing, in a way to communicate the message and be memorable.

My Favourite Things To Do in London

Been living in London more or less for 6 years now. I would say I loved it more as a tourist because it had more charm for me back in the days, but that probably happens everywhere when you become a local.

I moved a lot around, changed a lot of places and lived in some really nice suburban areas as well as not so nice urban areas. I enjoy myself the most residing in west London. It's been around 2 years since I started living near and now in Notting Hill. I like the area, however when I go out I always wish I lived somewhere in the East or North London, but that is just me, I love the change of scene too much. From moving around so much I now become more and more bored living in one area for too long, or maybe I'm just getting tired of living in London? Well, enough of my melancholic mood. I wanted to write about couple of places near where I live, that I enjoy visiting a lot.

Holland Park is located just around the corner from my flat, I visit it a lot, just to get some fresh air and a cup of tea, sometimes with friends, sometimes alone. I like it a lot because it's quite, never crowded and really beautiful inside with a large Jacobean mansion hidden behind the trees.

Saatchi Gallery located on King's Road in Sloane Square is my quick art fix. When I want to see some contemporary art, but nothing interesting is going on or I am too lazy to check my exhibition invitations, I always go there. Exhibitions change regularly, except for the only one permanent: Richard Wilson 20:50

And finally, Nikita's Russian Restaurant and Bar has been my favorite place for years. I have so many good and bad memories of some periods of my life connected with it, that this place has a home like feeling for me. Anyway, it's located on a quite residential street in West Brompton and opens in the evening only. It's a really perfect place for a celebration of some kind, a party or a date, as it has some really nice and dark, private atmosphere to it. It has the most delicious food, even for people who are not into Russian food at all, and the most fine tasting frozen vodkas with different flavors.

London Art Fair 2014: Modern British And Contemporary Art

London Art Fair 2014 was surely impressive and major thing to attend and see, I just wish we had more time to explore. It was the 26th edition, taking place from 16th until 19th of January annually, however we had the time to attend only on the last day. It was a mix of modern British and Contemporary art by new and already established artists. A lot of pieces were worth to be in a museum or on my wall, only If I had at least 4000 pounds to spend.
